The latest update from the BTO Cuckoo-tracking project reports improving weather in equatorial regions of Africa. This is important as it allows the satellite tags (attached to five Common Cuckoos in Norfolk in 2011) to charge up. The fact that the tags did not charge to very high levels (which limited the number of locations received), suggests that the Cuckoos are spending time under the forest canopy or in other dense vegetation such as grass.
BTO scientists haven’t heard from Kasper since the 6th January and they are starting to get a little concerned, since this is the longest gap since transmissions for any of the Cuckoos.
